Americonah is a love story that follows Ifemelu and Obinze who are two young students who met in Nigeria during secondary school, but as they grew, life and circumstances separated them across the globe. Ifumelu traveled to the USA to study at university, and Obinze went to London to seek o better life. Chimamanda wittingly and eloquently tells their experiences in both places from their perspective as an African native living abroad. Throughout this book Chimamanda describes the different archetypes one might encounter in these different locations and circumstances. It touches on many subjects such as racism, interracial relationships, unrequited love and self love.
