Dear Bar Bario community members, friends, family, After nearly 5 years of hosting events, exhibitions, space, and good energy for everyone - we've decided to close Bar Bario's doors.

When we opened bar bario, our intention was pure and simple. we wanted to be a living room for all, especially those who weren't received with love and care elsewhere. Throughout the past 4.5 years we've focused on this mission and expanded it: to shine a light on those that have been in the shadows for too long.

We've hosted over 600 events and curated over 60 exhibitions; we survived complaining neighbours, floods, broken ice machines, and many stolen glasses; we enjoyed so much laughter, held so many happy moments, served millions of drinks and celebrated our unique lives with all of you.

This very hard decision did not come easy to us and we contemplated it with much care. there were many reasons to keep the space open, one of the main being (of course) the need for a safer space like this. and, there were many reasons to close the space, some being financial, but also some of them being who we are at our core, and how we want to continue to serve.

The city is changing, and we want to evolve with it. Bar Bario has a beautiful purpose, and we did not want to infract on that purpose in any way - by having to make (financial choices we could not be proud of so we have chosen to leave the space in it's beauty, and move forward with pride.

This is not the end of bario!

Although bar bario's doors might close, bario's mission continues! we will continue to create space for marginalized communities in hospitality and art, exchange culture and knowledge, continue to give care. We are reconfiguring what that means within a physical space, and how we want to approach our mission in the future.

We are very busy setting up our foundation, one that will focus on events and exhibitions for marginalized communities (namely the queer and trans bipoc communities) called beyondbario. We're already in full planning mode. So, do not leave us, keep your attention here, because we're definitely not done serving and creating.

Bar Bario will close it's doors the 29th of march, so now is your time to show us your love. Show up for our team and be extra kind to them while they are grieving our beautiful space they have nourished and that has nourished them; get many drinks; check out all of the exhibitions and events we have coming up; celebrate the end of this story while we prepare for the next.

Let's make sure we enjoy our space to the fullest while we still can and make the last memories, to add to the last 4,5 years of Bario together.

A deep gratitude to everyone who has worked at Bario in the past and helped shape and nourish the space.

We are excited for what the future may bring, and hope everyone will come along with us on this journey.
